Day 1 – I was feeling pretty accomplished as I got my new humidor inside. I thought I would set it up at home as I prepare the lounge uptown. As I was prepping my smallest cabinet humidor; a 3500-stick capacity Olde English Tower Humidor, it did not occur to my how much time the previous owner had it in storage. Yes he had it in storage, when I acquired it. When you purchase a unit either new or used you might make this part of your thought process. I set the Cigar Oasis Magna Refill Water Beads in the Cigar Oasis Magna 2.0 Electronic Humidifier that came with the purchase, filled it with distilled water as required to prevent the development of mold inside the humidifier.
Day 2 – The next morning I did not receive, as expected, an appreciable increase in relative humidity (RH); though the indicator was flashing “low H2O”. 5% increase in RH in 8 hours. I remove some of the expanded water beads to a bowl, relocate to another level of the humidor, refill the reservoir, and head off to work. 8 hours another 10% increase; up to 62% RH. 64% RH after another 8 hours. The thought flashed across my mind to, “goose” the process along, to fire up my Cigar Oasis Magna 3.0 Electronic Humidifier, I purchased as a back-up/replacement, and put that one inside also to try to cut the humidor seasoning time. I resist the urge. But, the last thing I want is to place some of my 13-year aged sticks and immediately have the Spanish cedar suck all the moisture out and leave me with un-palatable firewood for my trouble. An exercise in patience.
